Department of Sociology in Kaunas University of Technology is a
small but young and promising university unit with only 10 staff
members. Despite the small number of staff members, our department is
a leading academic sociological institution in the country with
remarkable participation in international organizations (e.g. members
of boards of various research groups in International Sociological
Association and European Sociological Association). Department
administers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctor's qualifying degrees in
sociology. Main research areas: environmental sociology, sociology of
science and technology, sociology of risk, political sociology,
sociology of organizations and social stratification, sociology of
culture. Being in a geopolitical crossroad between the Eastern Slavic
and the Western European cultures we developed a sensitive and
somewhat outstanding capability of sociological understanding and
interpretation of various contradicting traditions and kinds of social
habituses.
